Zach is joined by Cev Moore (Here Lies Amicus, Film Guff) to take a terrifying journey through Hill House as they unravel the mysteries found in Robert Wise’s 1963 chiller, ‘The Haunting’.
TREMBLE IN FEAR as the two of them discuss the elegant approach to minimalist horror, SHRIEK as they explore how Wise brings things he learned under Val Lewton to a grander scale, SHUDDER at their praise for the use of sound design to bring forth scares, RUN IN TERROR from their observations on the film’s unique and innovative cinematography, and GASP IN ABSOLUTE HORROR as they extrapolate how the film has managed to cement its legacy into the horror films we see today.
But do not scare so easily kind viewer, these crypt keepers can be comical as well. Feel relieved the pair realize that Hugh Crane was a terrible interior decorator, marvel at Russ Tamblyn’s 60’s swagger in the film, learn about Erich von Stroheim’s forgotten line of fashion accessories, witness Christopher Lee starting the band Toxic Fog, discover Cev’s past history with Nell’s car, and come to terms with the fact that The Boys From Brazil was a movie that actually happened.
