Ep.53: ‘Young at Heart (1955)’ or ‘Four Daughters Minus One’

Zach welcomes back return guest Pam Munter (Author, ‘Fading Fame’) to find out if fairy tales can come true and if they can happen to you… even if they have already happened before as they unpack the melodrama and musical marvel that is 1955’s YOUNG AT HEART.

Settle in and pull up a chair in the Tuttle family living room as the two break into the story of Doris Day and her rise to fame, feel heart break over the troubling behind the scenes travails she experienced at the time due to her then husband, scrutinize over the films approach to romance of the era, examine the differences between the film and it’s 1938 predecessor ‘Four Daughters’, find charm in the performances from Day to Barrymore, and find how this musical adaptation and its many thematic tropes have carried into the films of today for better or worse.

The two also discuss the most pressing question: How can any marshmallow’s be that perfectly square?
