Ep. 112: Roman Holiday (1953) or ‘ Strike 1’

Zach welcomes back Ballyhoo correspondent and ‘Fred MacMurray theorist’ Adam Jewell to hop on a Vespa and cruise through the city of Rome as they unravel the stories surrounding 1953’s ROMAN HOLIDAY.

Tune in as the duo deconstruct the simple but effective narrative that has carried on through comedy generations, marvel at the genuine good nature of Gregory Peck, delight in the origin story of Audrey Hepburn, and become impressed by the slick transition made by William Wyler from drama to comedy direction.

But through all the fun, the duo will also examine the plight surrounding the films writer Dalton Trumbo, which catapults them into a larger discussion regarding The Hollywood Blacklist, the studio system at large, the history of guild activity at this time in history, and how all too much of it wraps into a struggle being had this very minute in Hollywood.

PLUS: Fred MacMurray tries out for the part of Dr. Loomis in Halloween.
