On a very special episode of the Ballyhoo, Zach welcomes back Darrel Lantz a.k.a. Buck Benny (Buck Benny OTR Podcast) for a deep dive into a comedy feud born out of a 10 yr. old violinist and the laughter that would ensue for over two decades with a look into the life of Stuart Canin and the birth of the Jack Benny/Fred Allen radio feud.
FIRST:
You will be treated by the guys with an interview with Stuart Canin, the young violinist himself, as he reflects on the broadcast from 1936 and the life he would lead following that fateful December broadcast. You will be treated to many grand stories of Stuarts time working with Jack during his benefit concerts, hear his thoughts on both Allen & Benny as performers and people, and be treated to an exhilarating story surrounding Stuart’s service during WWII and a very special concert he participated in. At 96, Stuart is still as sharp as ever. In fact he gets more than 5 steps ahead of our awestruck hosts.
THEN:
Zach and Buck will analyze the feud and present three key broadcasts during the birth of the feud that would go down in radio and comedy history.
The Broadcasts:
‘Town Hall Tonight’ Starring Fred Allen
